Our Mission
Black women in the South experience significant HIV health disparities, often without corresponding individual behaviors that increase the risk of HIV acquisition. When HIV is diagnosed, this can often lead to confusion, anger, resentment, and other emotional traumas. Moreover, the stigma and shame can be so profound that women cope in emotional, if not physical reclusion. What is missed is that all of us are HIV-possible and there are many other women living with the reality that HIV happened to them. Heather Ivy Society’s mission is to bring women who are suffering in emotional silence into a safer space to share sisterhood, support, and resources with other women of lived experience. From our first meeting on December 15, 2012, Heather Ivy Society’s mission has been to provide a secure forum and support network whereby women may obtain peer and professional guidance on HIV-related women’s health issues, without stigma, judgment or harassment.
Community Partners
Heather Ivy Society lends support using the compassionate services of our community partners to navigate clients along the HIV care continuum and anchor them to medical and support services that allow them to thrive in care. Heather Ivy Society has several community partners, but shares physical space in Southwest Atlanta and professional leadership with Faebris Medical and Community Education, a comprehensive infectious diseases practice that prescribes sexually transmitted infection (STI) and HIV testing, treatment and prevention therapies, both oral and long-acting injectable options. Medical services are provided to both women and men over the age of 16 years but distinctively incorporates comprehensive services for women.
